Ropetackle Arts Centre

Ropetackle Arts Centre is a multi-award winning, purpose-built venue presenting some of the biggest and best performing arts events in the UK.

Organized by Kelly Wickson

Hosted by author and BBC radio presenter Dr David Bramwell, in partnership with Ropetackle and Chapter 34 Book Shop

Established in 2004, The Catalyst Club is a monthly event that pays tribute to the old traditions of French Salon, debating societies and Gentleman’s Clubs. Since its inception the Catalyst has hosted over 700 talks that have included zombie films, Marmite, the history of the Martini, the suffragettes, Spartans, demonology, bum reading and slime mould. On the night three guest speakers take to the lectern to talk for fifteen minutes on a subject close to their heart. The Catalyst Club is open to anyone with a passion, no matter how bizarre or niche.

Dan Richards is an acclaimed non-fiction writer specialising in art, travel and adventure. His first book, Holloway – co-authored with Robert Macfarlane and illustrated by Stanley Donwood – became a Sunday Times bestseller and has been translated into several languages. His latest book Overnight: Journeys, Conversations and Stories After Dark details his subsequent investigation into “the who and the how of the nocturnal world”.

Ali Millar is an author and journalist. Her debut, The Last Days was a Guardian Book of the Year and tells the story of life inside the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It has been called a ‘real life handmaid’s tale’. Her debut novel AVA ANNA ADA weaves climate chaos, lust, poetry and violence in a contemporary fable.

Philip Carr-Gomm is an English writer specialising in the fields of psychology and Druidry. He is also a trained psychotherapist and was Chosen Chief of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids for 32 years. His books include The Book of English Magic, The Druid Way, and The Gift of the Night. His latest book, The Long Man and Friends was co-written with Catalyst Club host David
